This statement applies to the iFire, iRescue and iCrew mobile apps, provided by Kernow Software Ltd. The apps share a common platform, so this statement applies equally to all three.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use these apps. That means you should be able to:
- change your device text size and have the app text resize with it;
- use your device's screen reader (VoiceOver on iOS, TalkBack on Android);
- navigate the app with assistive technologies;
- use the app in your device's high-contrast or dark mode.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible these apps are
We are working towards the international WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard. Based on our own initial review, these apps are partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA: they meet many of the requirements, but we are aware that some parts are not yet fully accessible.
Please note: this statement is based on our own self-assessment. An independent accessibility audit has not yet been completed, so we will update this statement — including the list of issues below — once that audit is done.
Known issues we are working on
We know about the following accessibility issues and are working to fix them:
- Colour used to convey status. Some information — such as availability and on-call status — is shown mainly through colour. We are adding text and shape cues so the meaning does not depend on colour alone.
- Screen-reader labels. Some buttons and controls that use icons may not be announced clearly by VoiceOver or TalkBack. We are adding descriptive labels.
- Tap target size. Some controls may be smaller than the recommended minimum size, which can make them harder to tap accurately.
- Maps. The maps use third-party components (Apple Maps and Google Maps) whose controls can be difficult to use with some assistive technologies.
Reporting accessibility problems
We are always looking to improve the accessibility of these apps. If you find a problem that isn't listed here, or you need information in a different format, please contact us:

Enforcement procedure
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the "accessibility regulations"). If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
Technical information about these apps' accessibility
We are committed to making these apps accessible, in accordance with the accessibility regulations.
Compliance status: these apps are partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed above.
We do not currently claim that any part of the apps would be a disproportionate burden to make accessible.
What we're doing to improve accessibility
We have scheduled an independent WCAG 2.2 AA audit of the apps. The issues it identifies will be prioritised and fixed, with automated accessibility checks added to our tests so that fixes don't regress. We will update this statement as issues are resolved.
Preparation of this statement
This statement was prepared on . It is based on a self-assessment of the apps carried out internally. It will be reviewed following the independent audit, and at least once a year.
